What is Miami Art Week?
Miami Art Week, held annually in early December in Miami, Florida, is a premier cultural event that transforms the city into a global hub for contemporary art. The highlight of the week is Art Basel Miami Beach, a prestigious world art fair showcasing works from leading international galleries. Miami Art Week’s global and historical importance lies in its dynamic blend of art fairs, gallery openings, public installations, and events, offering a unique platform for both emerging and established artists to gain visibility and for collectors to discover new works. It fosters cultural exchange, innovation, and collaboration within the art community, while also stimulating the local economy and enhancing Miami’s reputation as a vibrant cultural destination.
What is Spectrum Miami and how is it linked to Red Dot Miami?
For independent or unrepresented artists, being accepted to Spectrum Miami is crucial because it offers significant exposure, networking opportunities with collectors and gallery owners, and direct sales potential. Additionally, participation in such a prestigious event bolsters an artist’s resume and professional credibility, opening doors to future opportunities and wider recognition in the art world (Miami Art Week) (Miami New Times).
To put it in other words, it’s like the Super Bowl of Fine Art Fairs, the New York Fashion Week of Art, a tech-start up getting a booth at CES… it’s a really big deal.
Whoa, this is a really big deal and sounds expensive, do you need any help?
You’re absolutely right, and I do need financial support to make this dream a reality.
Participating in an art fair of this magnitude comes with considerable expenses.
Here’s the breakdown:
- Booth Fees: $6,220 (with a 30% deposit of $1,866 due by July 22, 2024)
- Hotel: $1,200
- Van Rental for Artwork & People Transport: $1,100
- Gas, Food, and Miscellaneous Expenses: $480
To save costs, my husband and I will drive a rented van over 1,220 miles from Chicagoland to Miami, set up the booth, and hopefully share an unforgettable, art-filled week. We invite you to join us on this journey and will keep you updated through social media with pictures along the way.
I’ve set up a GoFundMe to help cover the estimated $9,000 in costs. Your support will not only help cover these essential expenses but also allow me to focus on making the most of this incredible opportunity. Every contribution, no matter how small, brings me closer to achieving my goal. Thank you for being a part of this exciting journey!
Anything else you'd like to share?
It’s been a wild ten years since I waved goodbye to the ordinary and jumped headfirst into what became my very own blockbuster “Hero’s Journey,” with me, stumbling on set to play the bewildered lead. For anyone who doesn’t know, I have type 1 narcolepsy and was forced to stop working at the career and company I loved. It didn’t just close the 9-5 window; it slammed it shut and threw away the key, forcing me unexpectedly straight into the wild.
Turns out, my heart teamed up with the stars to write a different script.
Looking back, the story was always there, one chapter at a time. Sure, I knew about the Monomyth, but living it? That was a plot twist I didn’t see coming, and figuring out the stages was like trying to solve a Rubik’s cube in the dark. But through all the ups and downs, one thing stood firm – the pen triumphed over the sword when it came to crafting my epic. Setting goals and relentlessly chasing them without hitting the pause button? Essential. Enjoying it along the way? Even more essential.
For all you Hero’s out there, writing your life, reaching your stars, I’d like to offer the most helpful pieces of advice that helped me get through:
- Happiness is a choice, teach yourself to enjoy the journey.
- There are no tigers, you are safe, and you are deeply loved.
- It takes 10 years to become an overnight success.
Thank you for your willingness to join me on this incredible journey, I truly hope I can help you along yours.
With much love, your friendly neighborhood artist,
Morgan
